Afribank Nigeria Plc has launched its tertiary institutions consumer banking initiative in Auchi, with the presentation of laptop computers to staff of Auchi Polytechnic and the sponsorship of internet connectivity in the institution.
The bank also presented 50 personal computers to the school authorities to aid rapid computerisation of its operations.
Launching the programme in Auchi, the Group Managing Director/CEO of the bank, Mr. Sebastian Adigwe, said that the initiative is one of the steps that will revive the standard of education in the country.
The presentation of the personal computers was done under the Computer for all Initiatives (CaNI) project being undertaken by Afribank in partnership with Omatek Computers Plc.
Adigwe explained that the extension of CaNI project to Auchi Polytechnic would aid skills acquisition and staff empowerment and assist in the integration of the school to the knowledge economy.
He commended the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Mrs Philipa Idogho and the entire management of the institution for working hard to attract credible programmes to the institution.
The Group Managing Director stated further that the CaNI project at Auchi Poly is one of the ways Afribank is deploying to make life easy for staff and students. Afribank’s consumer programme allows the individual to pay over a 36-month period.
The top-flight banker pledged the support of the bank to also train the Polytechnic staff.
In her speech, the MD of Omatek Computers Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki thanked Afribank for its interest in the development and growth of Nigeria. She said the computers were one of the best in the world with components sourced from top class companies. She noted that the partnership with Afribank in the task of bridging the digital divide between Africa and the rest of the world has been working.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Mrs Philipa Idogho congratulated Afribank for the initiative, and for accepting to train staff of the institution in the area of information technology.
She also thanked Afribank for making the computers affordable.
